I've noticed, and been wondering about a few designs that feature a specific handle-it looks like an egg, sort of, and are on the Yurco palm knife, the lobo by CS, the Clinch pick by Trace Rinaldi, and a few others. Do they offer any benefit? are they even comfortable? Thanks

I have a Keemosabe Jr. from Chax knives, and it has an egg-like handle. The thing about these handles is that it really locks onto your grip. Imagine, its not hard to get pain from twisting a flat-handled knife, and when you close your hand over it you have spaces between the knife handle and the way your hand naturally forms over the handle. With the Egg-type handle all that space is filled out. I could stab a 4 x 6 with my knife and not really feel it. I think its comfy, but that's just me.

I don't believe it is a new idea.

I suspect it is comfortable to hold, but probably limits the amount of force that can be applied to the blade. Also, it could be a handle design that is very hand-size specific.

It is comfortable to hold, though I don't know how it would LIMIT the amount of force you can put on the blade. I can put a LOT of force on MY knife, and its not limited at all. care to clarify?

maybe less force for forward thrusting, since the handle tapers toward the blade, and I don't see any with a guard.

Well, go to Chaxknives.com and look in the small knives gallery. The Keemosabe Jr. is the knife that I have. The way the blade tang is constructed makes it an integral guard. Your hand would stop WELL before going onto the blade. I'd post a pic, but I'm not at that level of membership.

I've noticed I can apply more force to a knife with a handle that is at least as long as my hand is wide. I can get ALL my fingers wrapped on it. The pinky helps prevent the blade from pivoting and adds area of contact.

Similiarly, if the egg were too large/small, less control seems probable. It's akin to grabbing balls of various sizes.

That's why I prefer knives with approximately four inch blades.
