hey guys i am looking for a egyption style khopesh sword to buy with out spending alot all the ones i have seen are handmade and therefor a lot of money any one know where to get a cheap one???

How cheap is cheap?

You can probably use google to find one for under $300...

Google "swords of the middle east" and there's a site that is named after a greek goddess that has some which you might be interested in.

If you're looking for a khopesh that you can actually use for hacking stuff, spend the money (~$300 plus shipping, depending upon current exchange rates) and get an actual bronze one from Neil Burridge in England. Neil is pretty much at the top of the list of current bronze sword makers, in terms of historical accuracy and historical methods. If you're looking for a vaguely khopesh shaped sword that you can hack stuff with, the Scorpion Swords ones at Kult of Athena will do the job. Anything else you're likely to find will be a pure wallhanger. There's not exactly a huge market for the khopesh these days. :D

Check out Skallagrim's review of the Burridge model:

yeh right now i dont have the money to spend on a true "functional" sword so for now i am trying to find a wallhanger of decent quality tho ill get a functional one in the future i am sure of that cause i have seen very nice ones 300$ + like you guys are talking about but for now ill have to settle on one that looks nice to hang up and i cant find any anywhere all the ones i see are basicly functional with a bigger price tag that i can tackle right now if any one knows where wall hangers might be let me know much appreciated

What kind of budget are you looking at? The Deepeekas at KoA would be great for decorative purposes, but they are up in the $120 range too.

trying to find 80 $ or less not going to spend more than that on a walllhanger functional wopuld be differenty if i had the money right now

Oh, $80? At that price, you're not gonna find many options. Swords in that price range are basically mass market trash, and makers of that stuff tend to make swords that are either totally and completely fantasy designs, or are copies of more "popular" historical designs, like katanas or the various knight/viking type broadswords. Your best bet is to save up another $35 or $50 and get the Deepeeka Egyptian Khopesh or Large Egyptian Khopesh at Kult of Athena. They come dull, but once sharpened it is actually a functional sword. Deepeeka makes a couple of other models too, though most of them seem to be backordered. If you really are completely unwilling to go over that $80 limit, KoA also has a total wallhanger called the "Sword of Anubis", not functional in any way, but it also runs $25 so if you just want a decorative one, there you go.

Just a basic question since I'm not all that familiar with recent developments in bronze/brass alloy strength. Isn't the edge holding capabilities similar to that of general 1018 mild steel? And if so, couldn't a "functional" blade be had for around that price point, so long as someone is willing to cut it out of a piece of stock steel, and put an edge on it?

Even at $80, you wont be able to find a decent beater sword from Cold Steel let alone a khopesh.

My advice is to be patient and save your money each month until you can afford it. Trust me, the older you get, the faster time flies. :p
