I recently came across a rescue knife from Eickhorn-Solingen. They (website) said that the steel is corrosion free 440A that has been laser cut and ice hardened. Admittedly, I have no idea what that means in terms of quality or fit and finish...so I thought I would ask you folks!
This is the website: http://www.lbainternational.com/eickhorn/rt_pocket.htm

And here's a pic of the knife:

Have you ever handled a knife from Eickhorn-Solingen? What are your thoughts?

Thanks folks!

Interesting phrases used on the website.

Case hardened 440A?

Ice Hardened? Cryogenic treatment?

The knives themselves look rather like generic low-end Taiwanese or Chinese designs. Not neccessarily bad, but not good either.

What is the locking mechanism? Looked about the website and couldn't find it. Something with a button, I think.

I`ve an Eickhorn rescue folder in my wife`s car for years already.
It`s a good tool for it`s intended purpose but there might be some better out there as well?
The steel is not bad but nothing to write home about. ;)
The button pushes the liner to close the blade and is very good even when used with gloves!

Long story short: a decent rescue tool for the price. :D

I have a pocket rescue tool as well. Mine has a tanto blade. The blade has a series of angled cuts toward the back (advertised as cut by lasers). They act like a serrated blade but can be sharpened like a plain edge.

The knife holds an edge well and cuts well but like others have mentioned it is nothing to write home about. I have used the seat belt cutter portion to cut a variety of objects like zip ties and rope and it works very well. The knife also has a glass breaker and I have never used it on a window but I have struck glass with it and I do believe it would work in an emergency.

If you were simply looking for a seat belt cutter and glass breaker I would recommend the Res-Q-Me keychain device. If you want a great knife and those things then I think the pocket rescue tool is the way to go.
