Eickhorn Solingen is a major German knifemaker, who also manufactures knives for United Cutlery, and their Colt Knives subsidiary. They make a wide variety of military and "rescue" style knives. I am not personally familiar with the range or prices they cover.

The only knife I know of made by Eickhorn for Colt is the Rescue knife with the gravity blade, and fold-out spike.

I'd say getting one for $40 is a pretty good deal. They originally cost around $50, and the lowest price I ever saw was around what you paid. As far as collectability, I wouldn't count on much at this time. It is a fun toy, and would be good to keep in the glove box. (providing it's legal where you live)

I have an original Eickhorn with orange handles, and a hooked blade. It's great for picking flowers on the side of the road, and I feel a bit better knowing I have a carbide-tipped striker for breaking the windows, should the need arise.
