For those who don’t remember, EDMF was a small shop run by Dale Sandburg (sp?) who made large working knives from sawmill blade steel with cast aluminum handles. He offered a bunch of different styles and shapes of blades and handles and I think most were in the $100 range IIRC. He’s been retired from knifemaking for several years now.

There’s a D-guard trench knife at auction right now that has an $895 bid. That’s a pretty good return on investment.

They've jumped up heavy, especially the knuckle knives, the last 10 years or so. They crept up a little when he slowed down, then exploded when his retirement became common knowledge. It sorta reminds me of the Ruana story a bit. For years they were reasonably undervalued and had a cool story. Finally more people saw it, and then you got the skyrocket.

It does seem like it's been some years since you could buy an EDMF knife in the $100 range. I had no idea they had become so popular.

Really? I have a EDMF Smatchet out hanging above my workbench that I used as a beater knife as a while.

You could probably pay for a nice vacation with it. The smatchet is one of the more valuable ones I would imagine.

Always enjoyed talking to Dale at the Oregon Knife Collectors Show. I did not see him this April, hope he is OK. John

When you say at auction I kind of have to ask where? I made the mistake of putting all my EDMF knives up on the Bay and within minutes I got a call from them saying they didn't allow knuckle knives for sale there. I pointed out there were a number of imported D-Guard Bowies listed but that didn't seem to matter.

Figures. I also had an EDMF Smatchet that I got bored with and sold off years ago, long before any increase in value (same with a Buckmaster, Ontario Hell's Belle, and others).:poop:

I used to have many but unfortunately Dale did not heat treat some of them and I had a few with broken tips , I sold the rest.

Ebay. I didn’t link it because of the rule against deal spotting.

Ebay makes no sense. One day automatic knives are in, then you list the same knife and they cancel it, even while the other knife is still in an open auction. I have pointed this out to them and they ignore it too.

That said, I am looking for any EDMF knuckle knives for my collection. Thx
