I used a 4' bar of .25" 5160 and another 4' of .093" 52100 for these. I'm ready to heat treat! I'm staying busy while waiting for folder parts. :D

I promise the grind lines will be better than the ones I drew on the larger one! :D

"Kiritsukegata Takobiki" meaning sword tipped octopus knife (octopus is tako; biki is pull (I think) meaning for draw slicing octopus)
It will work equally as well on beef or chicken!

Pikal? :D

Pikal? NO! That is one of my all time favorite skinner shapes, the trailing point!

Good to see you putting that grinder to good use!

I was hoping for input, thanks! I debate it... pikal... skinner? :D I'm not sure if it would be a true pikal with the upswept style...

I just quenched the 52100 ones a moment ago after some normalization cycles, 5160 is up next!

Biki does indeed mean to pull I believe, though there are several others as well. Precisely which one is used depends on the context it's being used in.

 Thanks!

Thanks! I really enjoy learning the meanings of the different Japanese knife terms... cool stuff!

Very cool!
Much appreciated!

These are in the kiln now for a second temper cycle! I have both kilns (and my BBQ :D ) going, one for each steel. 385F for 5160 and 425F for 52100...
