This knife is from the first wave from a relatives estate and is located in the Atlanta area. Price will include shipping and I accept Paypal [preferred] and USPO money orders. We can decide the shipping method after concluding the sale, however, I am fond of USPS Priority because it's fast, boxes are included, and it's easily traceable [required]. CONUS only, unless you convince me otherwise [it will be very hard to do].

For your ease of mind, my ebay ID is also vang52 and I have over 100 transactions with a 100% feedback. If you have any questions or concerns, by all means just ask. There are additional photos [I admit I'm a terrible photographer] in discussions on Bernard Levine's forum here on BladeForums.

Ek Commando Knife Company [Early Blackjack / Effington, Illinois] Model 3 knife. The knife comes in the original black Ek box along with a black web sheath and no paperwork. The model 3 features a double edged (partial on one side) dagger point, crossguard, and eighteen feet (18') of 650 lb tensile strength black parachute chord wrapped around the handle which is part of the full tang construction. I can't detect that this knife has ever been carried, sharpered, etc. at all. The blade looks pristine.

Do you know what steel is used in the Ek?

I've 5 copies of Ek Commando #2 (micarta, double edged, guardless, D2 steel) and love them. Extreme value per dollar cost, not for sale, bang buck supreme.

I have no idea if D2 was used in any other model. That would be a strong selling point to me. Thank you for your consideration.

Mitch,
Good question. Today: High-carbon surgical stainless steel HCS 1415 [from the Ek website]. In the past, John Ek favored nickel-chrome-moly before switching to Swedish Sandvik. What year? I have no idea... However, I can tell you that in any given year [Post Viet-Nam], the same steel blank was used for all model 1, 2, 3, & 4 knives unless there was some type of very special order. The only difference is that the model 5 Bowie uses a different size. This means for any given year, a 1 -4 would all use the same steel.

My knife is around 1991. How do I know? First it has no mention of the Gulf War on the blade stamp, but it does on the box and the blade also is marked Effington. The label on the box says BJK [Blackjack], but there is no bar code like appeared on later Blackjack box labels. This indicates very early Blackjack, or late VA partially finished product, and thus around 1991.

Hope this helps in some way, but the best I can do.

Steve
