Hello all! I have an early 90's EK knife. This was given to me by someone that I used to know that worked for Soldier Of Fortune Magazine, while I was in the Military. It is a bowie type blade double edged, one side has the SOF emblem (towards the middle of the blade) and says Korea, World WarII, and Vietnam near the guard. The other side of the blade says: Made in USA Effingham, IL. It is a full tang with green camo para cord wrapped around the handle. The sheath is some kind of woven nylon with more camo para cord wrapped around it.

I have had this knife for a number of years and it has served me well but I can’t find any information on it. Blade steel etc…. If anyone knows what I’m talking about please let me know.

I'm not gonna be much help, but that was a limited edition SOF advertised in the early 90's. SOF's from the 92-94 years used to run full page ads for them. The Effingham mark means these were made by Ek when they were under the control of old BlackJack(not to be confused with the new BlackJack under Ken Warner).

The steel was 440C, I believe, and they were around $150-200.

If you don't get much more information, try Mike Stewart of BlackJack, he posts in the Bark River section(his new knife company) at Knifeforums.com . He can fill in the blank spots.

Bob's right methinks. I have the black paracord wrapped bowie and dagger both made in Effingham and they are both 440C. IIRC, the green paracord wrapped pieces were 440C too.

Stepping over to the BRK&T forum over at knifeforums.com will get you to the main man hisself.

Good luck in your quest!

I did end up setting up an account over at KF and posted my question there. Mike and a couple of others did get back to me. One found my exact knife on ebay:

It's starting bid is $200 for new condition. Mine is used and has a lot of sentimental value for me.

Appriciate your help again.
