EK Knives ... Whats The Deal ?

I saw EK knives mentioned in another thread , along with a link to a company in Virginia that is supposedly the current maker, ( not sure if its cool to post the link here so I'll just let folks google it )
I've always regretted letting my EK M4 form the mid '90s go , and have wanted to replace it when I got the chance. I did some searching and found some information on the history of the company , but information seems to fall off after Blackjack stopped making them ... About the only consistent thing I was able to find was a general warning to watch out for fakes, and some unanswered questions about the 'proprietary steel similar to 440C ' used by the ( current ? ) makers , and the website mentioned raises as many Red flags as Chinese New Year , - lousy pics, steep prices, S-L-O-W server , bare bones description of the knives, a few things that look like they were copied and pasted from old print catalogs, etc.
At the time I owned mine, mid '90s , EK seemed to have quite a following- and their own collectors club as well, and some pretty sweet variations like checkered walnut or stag handles, leather sheaths, and even 'boot knife' and hunter models...I'm not sure what the steel was in mine, although Im certain it was made in Richmond VA . an came with a leather sheath
So I suppose , in short Im asking if the EK knife co. currently making them are in fact the genuine company , or just some folks turning out ' EK Shaped Objects ' on the cheap. , although they sure have them priced up there with the high end knives out there .

This site: http://www.ekknife.com/ ?

Not sure what their claim is on the name but they're the only folks claiming it as far as I know & I haven't seen it disputed anywhere. I bought a F/S Mk 2 with the leather sheath from them & have no complaints. You can still find the old Blackjack Eks on Ebay off & on.

Yep thats the one... Good to hear some positive feedback, but I refuse to drop three bills on something in a Mystery steel - even Zknives can't find it listed anywhere .
After some searching , I had most of my questions answered here : http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/609083-Ek-knives-Any-love
Maybe they just don't sell enough of them to justify a switchover to an updated steel... Oh well, mine was a letter opener and box stabber anyway.. I'll steer that $300 tword something that will be a little more useful for me..
