I think it was mentioned somewhere surefire will have exclusive rights to produce and sell the cqc8's. I think if you call surefire you can order one.

John probably knows the best, but I have not heard any solid numbers on how many will be produced. Surefire has the exclusive rights to the design right now (does not mean another design (with wave perhaps) will not come out down the road) so you can get it from them and authorized dealers. I know TAD is supposed to get the first 25 sets, but those might all be spoken for. They will all be serial numbered. I don't know where you are planning on preordering from, but you might want to check with them first, as at this point you might not be able to get in on their first shipment. Good luck.

My answer from "The Other Place":

The CQC8 is absolutely one of Ernie's best designs.

I have handled the production pieces are they are awesome. Every bit the knife the Custom is.

The Production CQC8 holds it's own very well against the custom. Feel is almost identical.

There are subtly design changes, but that's just it going to the production side of the house. Nothing really that hard core folks will not see and absoluelty nothing that compomises the design. Matter of fact, they went ot the larger stop pin and I believe a longer backspacer if I recall correctly.

The CQC8, I believe, will prove to be one of the more popular models EKI has ever made.

All the pieces will be numbered. Cross nmbered to a light.

The C2 is an exellent product as well. You can use the P61 bulbs in these lights (you can't in the E2 series), yet it more low profile them models like the M2. A good compromise between power and size.

I should also point out something about the light. Notice it's Black. Usually this means a paint like finish on Surefires. They are going to be using a new Black Anodizing on these lights. Very, very cool.

If you haven't guessed, I highly recommend these knives (and lights). I'd also recommend TAD as a source for the product.
