I just found a super cheap target. I sneaked out for a few minutes of throwing to relieve a bit of stress, taking a cardboard box and some duct tape. Tape the box to a tree and throw! How easy was that! I use the Gil Hibben throwers. The little one worked fine, but the big one chewed up the box pretty quick. After a few throws it was sticking right through into the tree at the back, so it still worked. Got the cobwebs out nicely.

On another note, I am still quite a newby at this throwing business. I could get the points to stick quite nicely at a specific distance. Move back a bit, and I was all at sea. I know I need to adjust my grip back down towards the end of the handle. (Must find a new cardboard box first...) Are there any rules of thumb I can use to help guess the adjustment, or is it just lots of practice?

Regards, Neophyte.

Try this:
8 ft for blade throw (1/2 rotation)
12 ft for handle throw (1 rotation)
15 ft for blade throw (1 1/2 rotation)
It also depends on size of knife (so your distances may vary).
Move up or back from these distances (only by inches) to adjust your throws.
Also, purchase an inexpensive archery target for better sticks.
