The Texas Knifemakers' Guild's main thing is hosting local events. It may be as complex as a full on organized hammer in, or as simple as "y'all come to my house on Saturday and we'll talk knives." We've got a guy out in El Paso, and he's lonely. Who else makes knives in that part of the world, Tx or NM?

Mesilla NM...about 40 miles from EP

Silver city, nm. just getting into it! I'm about 2 hours northwest of El Paso.

Hey, Rodriguez. I'm originally from Silver! Moved to Oklahoma after getting out of the Army. My folks still live there, off Rosedale Rd. Will be going back down there to visit in the fall.

I live in Salt Flat, TX. Usually at any rate, I'm going to be in NE Utah for the next 4 months... and really I'm not much of a maker.

Sweet, I live east of rosedale, by whiskey creek airport. Born and raised here man. I moved away after high school for work, but transferred back here, working telecommunications.

Hey, the lonely knifemaker here. My experience with guilds is that we have get togethers and share knowledge and experiences every now and then. Well, El Paso seems to be a desert of knifemakers as well. I would like to organize a get together of some sort, regardless of skill level/guild status or even just knife aficionados. What would the interest level be?

Almost moved there. My wife has family there. Happy I didn't. Chicos was ok though. There is practically nobody around in terms of knife makers when I checked which if you're good at the craft can be a positive considering the military base and cost of living there. If you do a get together do it NM as you might get a better turnout.

Used to live in Columbus, NM back in 99-03. ElPaso and Las Cruces were the 2 closest walmarts.

My Aunt still lives in Deming and a cousin in Silver city. Yep if you've been to Palomas you've been to the Pink Store is what we called it. Our property is the last gate on the right 1/2 mile before you cross the cattle guard heading into Columbus. Was my Grandfather's land and shop, but he passed in Dec. His wife still has it unless she's selling it off. IDK haven't talked to them since the day I left in 03.

So is that where you are, Deming?

Still called the Pink Store but the Restaurant has excellent food. I like the fact that they have a golf cart to take you to the dentist and to the drug store or the Doctors office...What Service and COLD BEER. Oh yeah I have spent time over in Palomas getting a haircut buying Cuban Cigars always made it a day trip. Got a bit crazy down there for a little while with Operation Fast and Furious and dealing with the Mexican Cartel.

Sorry to hear about your loss and I will have to remember when I head down that way to keep an eye out for the gate...

Back in the mid to late '70's, we lived just below the airport, off Kirkland road. There wasn't near the roads and homes there as now. Before that, we lived in Arenas Valley. Went to elementary school in Central, which is now Santa Clara, we live just down the street from the school. No doubt if I stayed there, I may have been another unemployed copper miner.

Nice to see so many knife folks here with connections there. Now that I'm retired, may try to move back, as my folks are getting up there in age.

Crazy, I went to central elementary. And my dad was born and raised in central. Small world!
