Although I am not that crazy about Cold Steel knives, I decided to give the El Vaquero a try because I wanted a big folder. When I got this in the mail today I almost crapped my pants after opening it. I can swing this thing like a baseball bat. The only change I would make would be to get the plain edge instead of the serrated, otherwise if you are looking for an intimidating folder I would recommend looking into on of these. The blade on this one is 5 inches and they make another one that is 6. That's just plain crazy! Anyone else out there have any cold steel knives and what are you opinions about them?

I have carried a large Cold Steel Voyager for many years, and don't have any real complaints about it. Think it is one of the best knives for the price.
I also use a LTC (donated when I was a survival instructor) during the field season, and love it, though I think I would love a larger kukri more...
Carry a modified master hunter when backpacking sometimes, and it just keeps cutting. Cleaned over 300 trout last fall.
Also have a few Bushman blades in my vehicle Ditch-Bags. That is one tough and inexpensive knife.
I tend to go for the 2nds.

If you think that your CS El Vaquero is big, you NEED to see the Vaquero GRANDE. I have one (that I sometimes carry), and I gotta tell ya that this monster is a folding saw...The blade is 6 inches long, and the over-all opened length is alittle over 13 inches!..

CS folders (especially the Vaquero series) often show unique designs, but IMO many of them are over-priced because of the materials they use. Zytel handles, steel liners and AUS-8 blades ain't the end-all of production folder performance.
That said, the Vaquero looks so good that maybe I'm going to get one next year.

It's got great "pucker-factor", and the serrations are aggressive for slashing. I would tend to use this one as a dedicated SD knife.... to resharpen it is a beeyotch. There is a Lansky dog-bone for CS serrations though. I have to say it is an interesting design though.

I've got some Grandes, Hombres, Voyagers, a scimitar, and a Land & Sea Rescue. Gave away my Lobos (one plain, one serrated). AUS-8 comes alive with serrations and the shape of the Vaquero and Hombre (recurved clip point) is great for tough cutting. For short money, they're great defensive carry and a makeshift saw. Unserrated AUS-8 isn't my favorite choice for that steel, although it's easy and fun to resharpen.

www.botachtactical.com and www.wholesalehunter.com have the best prices on the Nogales series and the Voyager series that I've seen. Just in case you've come to the conclusion that you need a Vaquero Grande and later conclude that you need the El Hombre, El Lobo, and Desperado, too. :D

Love the Blade shape, but that Knives Just plain Ugly:D And I mean Ugly In A good way:D

Just always keep in mind that CS also makes the Voyager 2X. This beast has the same handle as the Vaquero Grande and a 6" bowie unserrated blade.

Hi here are my CS Folders: Vaquero Grande and Scimitar:

Do i like them?
Sure!

Like to carry the Grande when walkink the dog in the woods,
it`s good for hacking small brushes for the kids.
(Also great on pizza, belive me! ;) )

IMO the Scimitar is a great fighter and a very practical design overall,
therefor i ordered a custom one from a knifemaker some time ago,
(hope to get soon).

You know what`s funny?
Have this folders for some years, but today a little accident made my wife asking me for a larger knife when walking alone with the dog, guess what i was thinking of first??
A Vaquero, smaller than mine, but 5 or 4 " blade and serrated!

(Think i`ll get her both)
