Elecro etching brass

Has anyone successfully electro-etched brass ?

If so, what did you use for an electrolyte? I am not having much luck with the electrolyte that i have for mild steel. I was hoping to mark the brass, not just etch it.

Copper sulfate should work. you can find it in "root kill" products at the hardware store. I'm not sure if it works with electro etch devices for makers marks, but it works on a larger scale using brass plates and a battery charger. I'm not sure the exact ratio that is used, by I just kept mixing in the sulfate until the water wouldn't absorb any more. the more saturated your solution, the faster it works...
