The switch $hit the bed on my press it was a cam switch. Now yesterday I went up to Lowe's and they told me that this would woud work Dual post switch rated at 30 amps. I wired it in ( I believe correctly) And it popped the circuit breaker.
The motor is 220v @ 30amp and the service going to it is 60 amps. Do I need a switch that's rated at 60 amps????
I got to get this sucker running before the HI.

IG, I'm starting to think maybe the problem isn't the switch. You've got the new switch running on the same wire, right? I've got to run, got jury duty.........

something is amiss, whats popping that breaker? 30 amp motor/30amp switch. what happened to the first switch? burned out? why?

The double pole 30 amp switches from Lowe's have been giving me fits, I've bought 6 of them in the last month, none of them worked properly. I don't even bother wiring them in anymore 'till I test it for continuity with a multimeter.

Just came back from a electrical supply house and this bigass 60a 240vc switch thats is a bigass gray steel box. It was $103. They are telling me that it's just a disconnect switch. Now I got to go weld a new bracket on my Hydraulic unit.

IG, You need at least a 50amp switch, the surge for starting the motor is probably what's taking out the 30A ones. motors can draw up to twice the rated current for a fraction of a second at startup.

Get me a picture of the big switch (front and rear) and if there is any ???'s I might be able to help from here.

Just saw your PM this morning, IG. Sorry I couldn't help, but sounds like you got it fixed.
