I've been looking into different patterns of knife to bring at work as deontamination worker and I've been interessed in the ''electrician pattern'' also known as the lineman's model due to camillus issuing it during world war 2. Is this pattern any good to play in the dirt with ? Also, Sog makes a modern lockback model while Roughriders makes a linerlock, I can't find any other model on the flea bay, which is my primary source for knife since I live in the Canadian north, any Idea of another locking knife for work ?

the TL-29 electrician's knife is a great knife for use. It's strong, simple, many American made ones are crude, and they're reliable. I have two carbon steel Klein ones (made by Utica), and they're great users. Keep in mind that on the ones that are set up in the traditional way, the main blade does not lock. The linerlock locks the screwdriver blade, on top of a strong backspring. The main blade is just a slipjoint, but that's nothing to worry about if you don't misuse your knives.
If you get a Klein one, you may want to reprofile the edge, as it's a bit abrupt for the thick blade. I can't speak for other brands.
I also cut an easy-opener notch into the handle so that I could get to the screwdriver's nail nick easier (VERY stiff springs) with the sanding drum of a Dremel tool. It's a 10 minute job, tops, and it makes loads of difference in getting the screwdriver out.

The Rough Rider electricians knife will serve you well. I'm an industrial electrician and have carried mine for a year and a half, never any issues. I can highly recommend it.

I've got an old Colonial branded one from the sixties or seventies. I believe Colonial is still producing the lineman's/electritian's knife in the US, and for a very reasonable price.

Klein has been offering electrican's tools for about a 150 years and are pretty much the standard by which all electrician's tools are judged. They have their knives made by outside contractors. I think their knives are currently made by Utica. I have never known Klein to offer anything but top-of-the-line tools. You should be able to find them in Canada at any electrical wholesale house.

The older Colonial ones can be found easily on eBay. You can find Craftsman, Camillus and Klein also.

I have a Camillus made TL-29 or Electrician's knfe that I quite like.
It could be a challenege to find, so I say for sure try out the Rough Rider and see how it goes

Thanks for all the answers, whenever I'll have enought money I will buy a 2 bladed colonial and see how it goes!
