Electro-chemical etching?

Ok, I have a question. I want one of those electro-chemical etchers, but the ones I have seen are over $120. A friend told me that you can take a 12 volt battery and some salt and citric based acid, put the connection on backwards, and you have the same thing. Is this true, and if so, how difficult is it to make? And does it look good when you are done? Thanks!

Yes it does work.

A carbon block electrode covered with felt makes the best etch.

The quality of the etch is directly related to the quality of the silk screen that you have made up. The etch from cheap homemade screens looks like cheap homemade screens were used.
