a question for you guys out there that etch your blades.

Im running into the problem with the etching solution staining my bead blasted blades when i go to etch my name on the blades. Anyone else have this problem? Ive tried wiping it off with acetone and other chemicals when im done but it doesnt do any good. and if i let it go it will even start to rust the blade...

any suggestions?

Hi Jim, immediately after etching my touch mark I spray my blade down with Windex. I believe the ammonia contained therein neutralizes any potential "etch" problem from the electrolyte. After wiping the Windex off I give the blade a wipe with some protective type oil. I have used Rem-Oil , Rig , & a couple others (I don't think the "type" matters much). That's what works for me

If you are using a commercial product, the kit should come with a neutralizing solution. Used immediately after etch, it works very well. I too have heard of using windex but decided not to re-invent the wheel so I use Martronics neutralizing solution. I then follow with Rennisance Wax - not to neutralize - just because it's now time to protect the whole blade.

Rob!

I use the cleaner that came with the etcher right after I take off the stencil and I haven't had any issues.
