Hi,
I have some problem to get my makers mark really dark. I use a electro etcher to etch (DC) and mark (AC). After Im done the mark looks good and black in some light and angels, but in some it looks almost brown. Any sugestions what I'm doing wrong? Whats your procedure for 14C28N and AEB-L?
I have tried electrolyte 94, 600 110A and sc-44 but it's all the same.
Thanks for the help :)

Hmm no replies. I use mostly AEBL and also get the brown etch. I was hoping to hear some replies.

Recently I started using a cheap laser and nail polish to do my etches. This has the advantage of being able to clean the etch with windex inbetween etches and that helps to darken it up and make it more consistent but still a little brown. My diy etcher electrode is made from stainless. I wonder if a different electrode would work better. Do you know what yours is?

Remember that darkening is an oxidative process, after etching spray with windex, rub and it should be fine.

Hi, thanks for your answer. With electrode you mean the hand marker? If so im using one with carbon block (from usaknifemaker).

Hi Pablo,
I use both windex and neutralyte after etching and tries to really rub it. After that I spray it with wd40.

I darkened my etch on aebl with fc and perma blue.
