I am curious if anyone has tried E-Cigarettes.

The first I ever heard of them was when I saw Johnny Depp in the movie "The Tourist".
Some time went by then a week ago one of the workers was puffing on something with a blue light at the end.
Looked like he was blowing smoke so I had to ask. It was an e-cigarette.

On my way home I stopped at the drug store and asked the pharmacist about them.
I told him that I have been smoking for a long time and thought they might help with quitting smoking.
He encouraged me to try using e-cigarettes as an aid to quit smoking.

They didn't sell them there but he told me a couple places in town that sells them.
All I found were the cheap versions but I thought I would give them a try.

Well.....it was not the same as a real cigarette. But it was better than I expected.
The taste is off a bit, and I drop it when I just hold it in my lips.
It does give me the nicotine like a cigarette and gets rid of the desire for a real one after a few puffs.

I haven't quit smoking the real ones yet.
But since I got the e-cigarette I am only smoking half as much as usual.

I am heading to San Diego next week and will see if I can find a better e-cigarette and get serious about quitting smoking for real.

I am curious to hear if anyone else has tried them.
What you thought and any suggestions.

I never tried them, they were just coming out when I became "smoke free". I used Chantix....it worked, but there can be side FX. When it says vivid dreams it should say horrible psychedelic episodes of terror. I woke up one night with the walls of my bedroom melting, I was soaking wet and my wife screaming at me 'chill out you're dreaming" !! Of course I got up and had a smoke....slept like a baby. I went to the Dr. the next day...he laughed and said oh that's normal. He had heard way worse cases. I had more weird dreams but none more horrifying. Also your brain doesn't want to hear negative things. So don't say things like "I'm going to quit"....that's a negative thought. Say "I'm going to be smoke free" I have been smoke free for several years now, no urges unless I'm around a lot of people smoking. I know some of this sounds crazy, but so is smoking.
Good luck:D

Mark, my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer on June 25th. She made it until August 24, a month short of her 72nd b-day. I bought the Blu electronic cigs on July 1 and haven't had a real cigarette or cigar since then. Take the plunge. By a full kit and cartridges, not the very expensive disposables. The first thing that will happen is that you will cut your nicotine consumed at LEAST in half. I was smoing over two packs a day and now change cartridges very day even though they are still working fine. Each cartridge is supposed to be the same as one pack. I plan to quit the Blu cigs after the first of the year and be done with it.

I tried them and they worked... for a while. I tried hypnosis and it worked wonderfully and instantly. I haven't smoked since June,2912 and I have no desire to smoke. ...Teddy

I tried hypnosis years ago and it didn't work. Neither did patches, gum or what have you. Fear and electronic cigarettes worked for me!!!!

Dan Graves smokes one continuously. And the best part is he made it himself. PM him and he may post a pic for you.

i have tried a few things.

-the nicorette gum..... actually helped me a lot. my issue isn't my addiction to the nicotine as it is to the rituals and oral fixation to the camels. the gum made me not want a smoke but i still wanted the cigarette

-a cheap $9-$11 e-cig..... same deal the nicotine made me not want the cigarette while at work or where i was. i didnt want to go out of my way for a quick smoke. but i still wanted the real deal

-patches.... made me light headed for 2-3 hours because i only smoke 5-10 a day depending on how work goes that day lol. so a few days of lighter smoking then the patch which i think was a time release of 10mg nicotine was wayyyyyy more than i was used to having. being my lights i smoke are .5mg nicotine a cig.

so we have the my-
1- lights @ .5mg nicotine
2- gum @ 2mg per gum
3- the cheap e-cig
4- the patch @ time release of 10mg

now after these methods i find the best way for me to quit was cold turkey. when i quit and i unfortunately have only last a week or two here and there. but im in the process of stopping again. for good. the best way for me is no similar rituals. no morning coffee at 7-11. i hit the coffee shop where they dont sell cigarettes. a slightly different ride to work so i dont get the visual queues for when i normally light my 1st or 2nd smoke. and i try to change my workout schedule up. i dont work out in the evening i switch it to the morning before work. next for my silly fear of gaining weight even though im at a healthy BMI for my age i consider my food i eat as my medicine. and i helps me eat healthier so i dont throw on a few extra pounds. and finally when i do want to smoke i try to say to myself lets go smoke after i get that next task done. and after its done then maybe i get oneeeee more little quick thing done then i will go out. after a few "little" things its 3 hours later :) i certainly need fresh air from time to time at work though so i dont go to the smokers section i head out the front of the building where quests enter so i cant smoke because im in front of guests.

*last side note, the best "e-cig" is the BLU branded ones. just my opinion but they have a product. more correct nicotine doses and they taste like what you are used to smoking if u pick up the set of "filter cartridges" of your normal type of smoke.

good luck! you can do it

I quit with patches and a mason jar.
I would put the patch on when I woke up and see if I could get farther into the day before ripping it off, waiting 20 minutes and lighting up than what I had done the day before, even if it was only a few minutes. I had been a 2 1/2 pack a day smoker. The mason jar was for the money that would have gone to the cigarettes I didn't buy. The rule was that since that money would have gone up in smoke anyway, I couldn't use it for bills, it was my reward to myself which turned into a gun, a pair of motorcycles, a replacement body for my 76 plymouth Duster, and a PHENOMINAL night with my then fiancee that started in a lingeree boutique, then a clothing boutique, then a high end restaurant, then I got MY reward ;)

I haven't smoked since 1994

I smoked about 2 packs a day until I retired. In a couple of months I was down to one pack at most. After a few years I moved from NYC to New Jersey. A couple of months after that, I wasn't smoking any more. MUCH better.

2 years "vaping" although I occassionally have the odd "analogue ciggie" if my 3 day battery runs out or I forgot the liquid for a refill. It's no big deal, not like "falling off the wagon". The tobacco is pretty stale now and just reminds me why I prefer the e-cigs and all the different flavours. I never bought the e-cig to quit, I got it to substitute smoking with a less harmful method of getting my nicotine. I guess you could gradually reduce the nicotine content to zero and give up that way. I stick with the same nicotine content I started with. I get my stuff from Totally Wicked E-Liquid as they're UK based and personally test all the gear they sell. The cheap online ones usually come from China and the ones I've tried have quality control issues and usually supply sometimes contaminated or sub standard glycerin products (non-food grade). It's worthwhile spending a little more on quality from a reputable (and local) dealer as at least you have some protection in the case of faulty goods etc. Everything lasts longer and works better, too.

This worked for me - check out Super T Manufacturing. Pricey, but worth it IMO.

JuicyFruit gum helped me break my 2-3pack a day/many year habit.

My uncle died October 27th this year, of emphysema. He was in the hospital for about 2 months, bouncing between regular hospital and re-hab. They were hoping he could recover some lung use, but he kept going downhill. He could not breathe for himself at all. His choices were, go to a nursing home that had a machine that could breath for him, or pull the plug and die. He couldn't stand the thought of a nursing home, so he pulled the plug. Took him about 16 hours to die.

If seeing that sort of thing in your future isn't enough to make you quit, then...

I have cut my cigar habit down to less than a quarter of what I used to consume. Often I only need a few puffs to satisfy the nicotine needs and the E cigs are a perfect fit. It still not a substitute for sitting back on the porch with a good filthy cigar

My biggest vice is still food, so for me, the revelation of the e-cigs may have been how much of my addiction was the oral fixation/ritual. i annually fly 9 or more hours to Europe and back and never really had "nic fits" this may explain why it was easy for me to totally switch to the e-digs in one day. With that said, I am puffing them a lot less than the real ones. It may by a psychological thing, but I only "need" a couple of puffs at a time from the e-cigs, whereas with the real things, I was going to finish that smoke.

I quit cold turkey in 1994 and never looked back. What did it for me was necessity. I spent a week working in a paint factory, living in a smoke free apartment and sharing a car with a non smoker. I decided to take that as a hint and just tried quitting. When I got back from that business trip I just kept seeing how long I could stay quit. Oddly enough for me there was no real issue. This after smoking 2.5 packs a day for 17 years. Who knew it could be so easy.

Anyway, I'm so glad to still be smoke free. Nowadays, cigs are over $7.50 a pack in WA. Friggin ridiculous. When I quit they were only $1.15 a pack (at Sam's club, by the carton of course).

I've been smoking for the better part of the last twenty years and I can tell you it will only work if you want it to work... I've actually had better luck with out them, when you think about it, if you go with the e-cigs, all you're really doing is replacing the addiction not kicking the habit. Honestly I wish I had the strength of tryppyr to go cold turkey like that... but I am weak so I must do it the hard way.

Currently I'm down to Max 4 cigs a day... some days I have none... others no more than 4.

Good luck in kicking your habit.

I like smoking.
I figured the e-cigs would be less harmful and easier to walk away from.
So far with the e-cigs instead of smoking a pack and a half a day, like I have for the past few decades, a pack is now lasting me a few days.
....and I am not a grumpy SOB that nobody wants to be around. At least no more than normal.

I was considering trying the E-Cigs. But then I realized that I don't smoke any where near as much as I used to. When I was 18-19 I was smoking 2 packs a day which just sounds incredible now. Currently I smoke maybe 3-4 cigarettes a day, but that's mostly because I'm at home for the winter season. There are even some days where I don't smoke at all. When I'm working I'll generally smoke half a pack a day which still isn't too bad I don't think. Maybe I will try the E-Cigs some day but probably not soon.

Has anyone tried chewing to quite smoking? I've know a couple of guys who did that. One is actually tobacco free, of the other two one still chews and one went back to smoking. I LOVE chew. But I won't let myself start because I think the health/hygiene issues are greater with chew.

I do have to say though that my big vice is coffee. I'll easily drink a pot a day everyday. Without it I want to kill, well not really, but kinda. :D
