any views on this knife?i wish they made it with a different lock. i especially dont like liner locks with rough feeling springs. they just wreck good knife for me. i did read someone saying that benchmades g10 is alot cheaper feeling than say spydercos..

does anyone have anything to back this up? and would you take 3 blackorblue class benchmades over 1 plain seb?

First of all, there is no G-10 on that knife, that is carbon fiber. Second, you probably won't be disappointed in BM's liner lock. This isn't the kind of knife you cut down trees with, either, so I wouldn't worry about it disengaging on you.

I wouldn't say BM's G-10 is cheaper, its just that it is not texturized (at least on the Ares) like Spyderco's is. It is smoother and flatter, which leads some people to believe it is zytel or FRN.

im not saying that it does.

you misunderstood.

I am aware its carbon fibre, wood and titantium.

i was tossing up between a 705 and 721, both g10.but it does seem bm like the 705 alot, as they've made quite a few nice lmt edition and gold class versions of it.

and when you say not texturized you dont mean polished do you. texturized being like the paramilitary then. i thought that the 710-705 look quite similar in texture to say the para or uk pen knife. is that untrue?

afaik, g10 is g10. BM has a texture to it, but maybe not as rough as Spyderco's. I haven't had a g10 spyder in a few years, so I can't recall. But I do have an Ares that's 6 or 7 years old, and the g10 is fine.

I have exactly this knife with the Boron Carbide Coating. It is absolutely precision fit and is a beautiful knife. The opening and closing is so smooth, much easier than any other knife that I own. The liner lock is very secure and snaps into place every time.

I'm not into "Safe Queens" but this one is as close as it gets. I have to admit that it seldom gets into my EDC rotation, other than to show it to people.

i just go t my presidio. iopened it once, then when closing it for the first time it nearly cut the end of my finger off with is assisted closing.

whats all the big fuss about an axis being a "play" nfeature on a knife thast you can have fun with?

Dan, try holding the Axis lock back, then flicking the blade out as you release the lock. It might take a couple tries to get the motion down, but when you have it you'll be able to flick that 520 open and closed faster than you'd think possible.

Just watch those fingers. ;)

I recently traded one, it just wasn't me. Beautiful knife, great blade, performed well, but I just didn't feel any attachment to it.

with the axis lock drawn back, the knife is basically a gravity knife (but don't tell the cops that) they flick extremely easily, it's why I have 4 of them.

You may need to loosen the pivot screw if the blade doesn't swing freely enough.

Sorry that I "misunderstood." Maybe it's the fact that you can't post a single topic about a knife without asking three other questions that do not relate to the knife in question?

First you wanted our thoughts on the 690, now you say you want us to tell you about the 705 or 721. I think you should make up your mind before starting a thread about one single knife next time.

How do you do the close, do you have to just let go
of the axis as it hits the stop?

Yes, or a little before. If you do it too soon the blade will almost bounce back out, or if it's way too soon it'll just stop.

do you think that in anyway damages the knife playing with it in this way? like bends the stop/axis pin causing blade play?
