Elishewitz folder lock question

Noticed something unusual about the folder action on my Elishewitz Cortex: When i open the blade, there is a noticeble 'click' when the ball bearing detent clears the back of the blade and the liner springs up. This is before the liner actually locks up proper behind the blade. Is this normal? Should be plenty of folks with Allen's folders of similar size.

Are you sure the blade passed the ball bearing? I have a Diablo and 2 older Elishewitz folders,on all of them the detent is very low on the liner. There is less than 1/4" between the blade passing the bearing and locking open.I hear a click when the blade passes the bearing and when it locks up.

Yeah, there's a noticeable click when the back of the blade clears the ball bearing detent (which seems a little high) and the liner slaps against the underside of the blade. Further movement makes the liner clear the back of the blade completely locked. On my other folders, I haven't had this occur or at least, not so audibly. Just wanted to know if it was normal.

It happens on my Specter. It's pretty normal.

Also, regarding the ball bearing detent, the bigger the ball, the better the lock up when the blade is closed.

Wussup Red,

I got a Inlay intergal Cortex and yes it does click when the blade passes the detent. I think Allen uses a bigger detent so it is safer when closed. When the blade passes the detent it will click. It is normal. Hope this helps. Take care.

From a rank newbie to fine custom knives, thanks to all for the re-assurance. The Cortex is possibly the finest folder I've ever held. I'm already saving up for another Elishewitz in G10/Titanium if the Crawford Point Guard doesn't get my wallet first.

BTW Ancient Sul, I see we have similar good taste in folders

I just picked up the new Elishewitz/Viele collaboration, a knifeart.com exclusive. It is very well made. The design reflects the best of both makers. And it is pretty,to boot! Check 'em out before they get gone, only 25 will be made!
