Elishewitz out of the custom market

I received a letter yesterday from Alan. He will no longer be taking orders for custom knives. He indicates that his obligations to the various manufacturers/collaborators have taken too much of his time and he can no longer meet reasonable time limitations in terms of his custom products.

This is regrettable as far as I'm concerned. Alan was/is a very innovative maker and he will be greatly missed.

He indicated that he would be doing knife shows, however, and that will at least give his fans the chance to see/handle/purchase his knives on at least a limited basis. His efforts will be focused on watches and jewelry--areas where he has demonstrated an extremely high level of talent.

My very best to Alan and Valerie and hope to see you at next Nov.'s NYCKS. :)

Really?
Then I should be happy I could place an order three years ago for a Prodigy folder with Ironwood scales. Allen delivered this knife personally to me while visiting the PARIS KNIFE SHOW in 2001!
Allen and Valerie are absolutly fine people!
They even sent us some cute baby clothes for our son Eric when he was born two years ago.

All the best to them!

Well the miss-guided hype has already started on Ebay. There are a couple of Allen's knives for sale. The seller has noted the letter from Allen and says that Allen's knives are sure to go up in price.

To his credit, he is taking advantage of what is sure to be miss-information (in no way shape or form fostered by Allen) to sell his Elishewitz knives.

Sorry for some of the misunderstandings/confusion! I am not quitting knifemaking, I am just not taking "individual" orders. I took the decision so I can have more time to work on other projects and collaborations. I will continue to be at shows and bring knives. You will still be able to get knives available from my website. I am not slowing down, to the contrary I am even more involved.

Hi Allen,

Thank you for your clarification. This is exactly the proactive approach to business that a professional takes.
