Got a buddy that has helped me out with some electrical work that is heading to Colorado in a couple of weeks in pursuit of elk. I made this to take a long with him. It is forged W-2 w/stainless fittings and buckeye burl and is about 10 1/2 inches overall. It is also my first mortise tang (thanks Primos and Wheeler for tutorials and pics). It also has an extended ricasso so he can choke up. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking. :)

Very well executed! I have been very impressed with your progression as a knifemaker keep up the outstanding work!

Looks just like the knife he needs for elk, right blade size. Workmanship is very good. A knife I would carry.

nice job Michael, that should be an exciting hunt and if things are a bit slow he can always whittle. :D

Nice..I just finished a similar style.... mine didn't come out quite that well though....good looking wood and the area where the guard meets wood is well done...

Good looking knife Michael. Nice to see a morticed tang :). Good choice in steel too, I still have a little w2 I'll have to throw some in the forge now ;).

How do you like forging w2? It seems to be a little harder to move, but there is very little scale and the blade leaves the forge fairly clean. I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

Forging W-2 sucks, but it is about all I ever forge so I don't know any better. :)

I made one to take on an elk hunt in 2003 and didn't get it sharp enough....Next time it will be razor sharp............I was able to gut it out ok, but it needed to be sharper...... I got a nice 5 x 5... Now the knife is permanently mounted above the elk rack.........carl
