A recently completed piece that is on it's way to the client now is this commissioned hunter with elk stag scales,a tapered tang, filework, blacksmith's curl and a forged finger pad.Steel is 1095 with an antique finish, blade is 5 1/2" and 9 3/4" OAL. Coop is responsible for the great pic of course, thanks Jim!!

Great job John & Jim!

Excellent and interesting as usual John!

Is the blade finish your usual Bleach/Ferric treatment?

Rick, I bought quite a bit of elk antler a few years ago from a retiring knifemaker in Texas, and it is some of the best I have ever seen too!!!I heat the scales gently with a torch and dye with leather dye the a few top coats of boiled linseed oil cut with mineral spirits!!

John's work is ALWAYS a challenge, and ALWAYS gratifying. It's one part photographer, and one part hairdresser with all that fringe.... LOL!

His work is an acquired taste for some. I've heard remarks from "WOW! That's superb" all the way to "Yuck. That's creepy."

I'm in the 'Superb' ranks. :D

Thanks John. Good thread.
