Here are two customer order knives I just finished except for the sheaths and final sharpening. They are 3/16" thick by 1 1/4" D2, my semi-skinner profile and convex grind, elk scales, brass pins and brass thong tubing. The guys these are for provided the elk shed for the handles. They are going bear hunting in Maine in May so I should get some good feedback. Thanks for looking.

Good looking knives. The bear hunt will test the edge retention. Can they find more elk sheads.hint hint ;)

Thanks Kim. I'm going to ask them about more elk. The piece you see in the pic is what is left over and they said I could keep it. The problem with this shed is it must have been from a smallish elk because there's not much mass to it. The part I cut for scales was near the crown where it was wider. I can use the rest on 1" stock.

Scott, that is the same thing that I have to do. Even with large whitetail racks. Trying to get a line on some axis deer antler. solid all the way thru.

Hey Scott:
If they are coming to Maine to hunt bear in May, they are going to have to poach them since our bear season is in October . Nice knives by the way.

Oopps, I thought they said Maine it may be a spring hunt in another state up that way or Canada. Oh well, they plan on bear hunting somewhere in May :) Thanks.

edit. They are going to Idaho. Don't know how I mixed that up.

Those are great Scott!

That's some of the nicest elk on a handle I've seen! :D

You're right about that Nick. It has the popcorn look of sambar stag. Down near the crown it's denser. Not as dense as sambar but pretty close.
