That would be cool. Japan doesn't use non-Japanese steels in their knives.

Only way this would happen is if the Endura was moved to Another country for production. Ain't gonna happen any time soon.

Sure, why not? It would add quite a bit to the price though, Elmax is a lot more expensive than VG-10.

Because they consider "foreign" steel inferior to what their own country can produce. I'd imagine it also contributes to their strong manufacturing economy.

I'm happy with ZDP/VG10/SB and there will be more Japanese steels on the Endura down the road but if their gonna do Elmax somehow, I'd rather see CPM154, K390, M390/204P, S90v/20CP etc.

I wouldn't call it a nightmare, but it does take a light hand and patience.

Depends on a few factors, how dull/damaged the edge is, what you're using to sharpen in the field, and how good you are with the sharpener. I carry DMT diamond cards in my wallet and a quick touch-up takes only a few minutes, but using those to sharpen out chips or reprofile just doesn't bear thinking about.
