I was wondering about elmax and if it is infact a "super" steel, i personally have no experience with it. If anyone could give me some characteristics of the steel such as edge retention etc....

It's a pretty good edge holder, along the lines of S30V. It has very good corrosion resistance and very good toughness for a stainless, though not anywhere near the super tough non-stainless steels such as 3V.

Elmax is a super steel. The best way to experience it is when made in a custom knife. It is extremely corrosion resistant, it does have toughness, and it can hold an edge a lot longer than S30V. Elmax really shines when heat treated to 61-62 Rc. It's rare to see the actual Rockwell numbers of production knives, but if the grind is right and the hardness is there, it's a laser.

What Rev says holds true. I've had ZTs in Elmax and they don't hold a candle to my custom Jonny Mac neck knife in Elmax. I can't wait to get my Ochs flipper in Elmax. Elmax has such great potential I don't understand why companies like KAI/Microtech don't take better advantage of it.
