Hey guys,

I have two knives on my radar right now, one of which comes with S90V and the other with ELMAX. I was wondering; which steel is better? In terms of edge resistance; corrosion resistance isn't a worry for me. Thanks!

Michaelm, I am curious as to why you say Elmax is much more common than s90v, I have been having knives made out of s90v long before Elmax was even available. Is it just because you find it more available from the major mfgs.? I don't really know--just trying to learn.

AS to the op's question, I must echo the posters who stated, that a lot more goes into it than the type steel--for collectability.

Between those two I honestly think the Para would hold its value better due to being a more popular knife. Also as good as Spyderco is with there HTs S90V will be better in just about every way short on toughness. Since your original post only mentioned edge retention given they are the same hardness and a good HT (Spyderco has this down) S90V will blow Elmax out of the water when it comes to edge retention.

I'm gonna pick it up. I have a camo PM2 and I love it. An Elmax variant would be awesome IMO.

Of these 2 my vote goes to the S90V knife. There is a bit of drama associated with the Para2, and the higher price seems to be a bit of a let down for folks across the board. I like the Paramilitary series, I own a ton of them, but $200 is a bit steep.

+1 on the S90V Yojimbo if you are looking at just the steel .The Elmax PM2 would be a more practical user for my purposes.Elmax is a really good balanced stainless.Elmax takes a fantastic polished edge from my experiences.I would consider the practicality of the knife design paramount when choosing between the two knives and steels if you are going to be EDC.For a collector hands down the Yojimbo.
