Jack Elrod created Mark Trail and worked with Ed Dodd on the strip. I remember my Mark Trails book on animal tracks as one of my earliest references on such things when I was a kid.

My Uncle was my outdoor mentor and Mark Trail was his favorite comic strip - and yes Prince Valiant too.
