Hello, I was looking over the material section of emachineshop.com and I noticed a steel: 440C martensitic. Now heres a pretty dumb question that I have to ask, is that the same stuff as the 440C commonly used for knives?Heres another silly question they also list 1055 constructional, Im assumming that its in the family of the 10xx series steels used for knives like 1084 and 1095, and a knife could be made from it, is that the case? Thanks Again and All the Best!

Hello. As I looked over the steel selection on emachine shop I figured that 6150 would probably be a good choice for the type of knife I would have made, if I were to order a blank from them. I heard good things about 6150 but has anyone ever worked with and heat treated it and if so what were the results? Also is there different grades of it like 5160 some being not as good as others? Thanks Again and All the Best!
