Boys, take a look at this and please note the amount Ram allots himself for food per month. When I think about how much I blow on Heineken per month I'm not sure I belong in the good guy category.

Thanks to good guy, Steve, and all of the rest of the good guys I'll kick in some of my Heineken fund and will send Ram an international money order for $500 Monday. You can get an idea of what this will mean to him from his mail.

Wow, what dedication he must have. I'm trying to think of how one could stretch $10/month in the most nutritious way, possible. Rice & beans?:confused:
I wonder if Latvia has any cheap all-you-can-eat places?
 
You're right on, Do. The basic Nepali fare -- dhal bhat -- rice and lentils. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I never want to see a plate of the stuff again but Yandu prepares it on regular basis. I won't eat it so we have two menus.
 
Uncle Bill, you're sure the $10 is not a type, right? That's about 33 cents a day. Unbelievable. I do like dhal, but once or twice a month is enough for me. I'm glad we're able to help a little.

You'll let us know when more is necessary, right?
 
It's not a typo. I know it's hard for us to fathom but life in Nepal is very, very tough and a Nepali will take this austere way of life with him when he leaves the country.

Some perspective: About 25 years ago Yangdu started college at Shanker Dev campus for girls on a Hillary scholarship of 300 rupia per month. Conversion rate at that time was about 8 rupia per dollar. Her room rent was 50 and she figures she spent no more than 100 for food -- hence, $12 per month for food.
 
Look like I should start sending money for another blade as soon as I can. If this young man doesn't make a good doctor I have never seen determination before. I need to win the lottery. I am just worried that he is going to damage his own health eating like he is. That would not be good at all. If he winds up sick himself he can help no one.
 
Uncle Bill, I don't know if I have ever posted here or not. However, this one really got my attention. How should I send funds? I cannot afford a lot but I live comfortably and can afford something for someone who has so much less. Please let me know. thank you.
