Email Issues With Makers

I know there are sometimes contact issues with makers/customers and such, but I had hoped the forums will hopefully put me back in contact with Mr. Linger. Knife is bought and paid for, but I have not seen an email from him since the end of Nov 06. If you see this Roger, please contact me, or if one of the other makers who is in closer touch with him can you please let him know that either his email isn't working and he needs to let me know what's going on. I've had this piece on order for almost 2 years now and he had sad all the materials were in and the steel was being worked when we last had spoken in November.
I really really really don't want to be that guy, but I also do not want to be out all that money.

Thanks for whoever can help.
Andrew

Sorry, don't know the guy.

I've been lucky. Al Warren is almost done with my knife, has sent me pictures of the process, has returned every e-mail I've sent him, hasn't asked me for a dime, and the whole process looks like it will take far less than any other wait period I've heard of.

Uh, but I imagin this doesn't make you feel any better. Sorry. :o

Did he request that you to pay in full for the knife two years ago upon order or did you insist on paying in advance?
When did he say the knife would be ready?
A maker has never asked me to pay in advance of a knife being delivered. I hear of makers requiring a 50% deposit, which I think is fair.

Andrew,

I am sorry to hear this, but I am not surprised. Do a search in the GB&U forum of Roger Linger and you will see he is spotty at returning calls about his work.

Second: We have discussed this over and over and over that you never, EVER pay a maker up front for a piece unless it is being made of extreme materials or design. You are seeing why the lack of incentive will burn you. Too late now, but I am not surprised once again.

Lastly, your title on the post is innappropriate. You use the terms 'Email Issues With Makers', lumping everyone in the same category. You are having a problem with ONE maker. Who are the others with the issues?

Best of luck.

Aparently this should be made a sticky. I can't believe people still do this. And there is no way I pay a 50% deposit unless the maker is willing to guarantee the delivery date AND that date is in the real near future.

Andrew,

Pick up the phone. And NEVER pay in advance.

I am not actually a private detective, but I have stayed at a Holiday....

from a makers standpoint I agree with the above advice. Sometimes im slow to answer emails, sometimes they get lost in cyberspace etc.. BUT I ALWAYS answer the phone (unless I cant hear it).
