email or no email

I'd like to PM or email someone about a knife purchase and in his directions he says to click his icon for his email, but when I do there's no option there to do so. I've emailed many others by doing the same thing, but I've also encountered this before as well. I'm not a paying member. Is that the reason it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't?

Its because they dont have it enabled through their profile settings.

Not being able to Private Message is due to your membership level.

If they have their email off, you can leave a Visitor's Message on their profile page.
 
I've looked all over and can't find where to leave a Visitor's Message. Could that be turned off, too?
 
Yes it can.

Well, it looks as though your only option is to post in the thread, let them know you're interested and ask them to email you.

He may not even know that he has those things disabled. It happens.

He has visitor messages enabled, it's available when you get into the profile page (one of the tabs at the top.)
 
Ya know, I WANT to believe you, I really do. You're a mod after all, and here to help! But it's kind of like Nessie or Bigfoot. One person sees it, the person beside them turns around and.... it's gone. Maybe if I just believe HARD enough ... maybe it's fate telling me I have too many damned knives.
 
So send him a Visitor Message asking him to enable his email:

Go to Settings > My Settings (left side) > My Account > General Settings
Messaging & Notification -- go through all the email and PM settings, including Default Thread Subscription Mode.

You're seeing something different than me. I only see 5 tabs. There's no "Visitor Messages" and instead of "Infractions" it says "Post Areas".

He must have his VM enabled but limited to his Contacts and Moderators. Thats why Rev and Esav can see it but rschuch and myself Cannot.

I don't know how my email and PM got turned off but I just turned it back on.
