Embarassing question - CRKT outburst opening

Hi,

I bough the CRKT My tighe. It's my first real folder.

I just can't find the way to close it. It's the assisted opening model.

I read CRKT's website and didn't found a complete manual or something to help me understand how they work, etc.

Anyone would be kind enough to show me on a pic where is the level or safety to close the knife.

Thank you

I don't own one, and I can't find any statement from a vendor as to what locking mechanism it uses.

Is it a frame-lock or liner lock? Check out the pics below of a frame lock:

If you see this, all you need to do is slide the bar over to unlock the knife. In the case of the picture above, the bar needs to be slid over to the left. Liner locks are similar, but don't actually use the frame.

Welcome to the forum!

Don't be too embarrassed, I've shown plenty of my frame-locks to non-knife-nuts who have wondered how to disengage the lock. Simple enough mistake!

We'd love to hear about your experience with the knife...feel free to post a review, or stick around and see what other knife-nuts collect and think about different blades!

Yeah, most people, including myself, were used to lock backs and slip joints. When I first ran into a liner lock I was a bit confused. I know most people I show a knife to that has a liner lock or frame lock have no clue how to close it.

Odd I ran into that exact same situation with some guy that wanted to see my CRKT Pointguard yesterday. He had no clue how to close it.

Well, I don't know but maybe if CRKT spend more space on their website detailing their products intead of throwing random marketing catch-phrase we wouldnt look so silly :)

yeah, i get that all the time. i can't remember, but i was probably confused the first time i saw a liner/frame lock too

No worries! Glad I could help!

Now, has anyone figured out how to remove the outburst system? Do I merely remove the little set screw and bar or do I have to take the whole left side off?

It is good to ask questions!! I know many a non-knife person's that have no clue how to close a frame lock.

The question did make me chuckle a little, one day you'll get a kick out of it too. No worries though since it is a common question with people new to folders or fame/liner locks.

I gave my dad a small framelock to cut something, which he did fine, though he then proceeded to look at it a little confused trying to figure out how to close it. I have to admit it is interesting to see since it is something that becomes so common, that you wind up thinking nothing of it. I guess it would be like seeing somebody look at a door knob in confusion. They may have never seen one before and have no clue what to do with it, but interesting to see the thought process.

On a personal note, I have no clue how to open or close the CRKT Van Hoy Snap Lock knives. Even worse the guy selling them at the gun show I was at didn't have a clue either. I decided to put it down and walk away before I hurt myself lol.

Welcome to bladeforums and enjoy the knife!

Niow you need a Spyderco Meerkat- My wife always enjoys handing it to "Men" who can't figure it out.

We get a chuckle because we were there once too.

none of my friends can close any of my knives.
i think their heads would explode if i gave them my d'allara with the ball lock.

its frightening to watch them try though, just put a whole bunch of pressure on it, yeah thatll do it!

When I got my first one I was in total lost about how to close it. I finally looked at the directions and I felt like such an idiot. :)
