Emergency sharpening on the run?

Hi everyone, after searching the interwebs I cannot seem to find the answer I've been looking for. I tend to keep my knives very sharp but I also use them ALOT so that scary sharp edge will usually dwindle down, and it always dulls down right as I need a razor sharp blade. I've been looking for makeshift strops so I can bring back that razor edge while on the go. As I said before, after all of the searching I have only come up with the usuals: leather belt, cardboard, news paper, jeans, and skin. But what else can be used to return a decent edge?
Thanks!

Inmates in prison use the cement in between bricks or the surface of a poured concrete floor.

Or, you can carry a small sharpener on you. I was in the same spot as you many years ago, and I got one of the Eze-Lap model L diamond sharpeners. Using a fine saw, I cut off most of the plastic handle, until it fit in the zipper pocket of my wallet. It's the medium grit, and I've had great luck using it for years when there was no coffee mug, brick building, creek with smooth stones on hand. It puts a very nice hair shaving edge on a knife in a short while if you're good with free hand sharpening. The model L comes in course, medium, fine and super fine all for very cheap price. Like 5.99 or some ridiculous low price. I've even touched up a 12 inch machete with it, working a few inches at a time. Got it right sharp!

This has me confused:

Also, coffee mugs? Really? Can any of you elaborate on the methods of usage suggested here? I never heard of such.

I just made a post myself before finding this one of wanting to get my knives really sharp so I could use the help.

Typically, the foot of a ceramic mug, bowl, plate, etc. is left unglazed so it does not stick to the kiln shelf. With porcelain clay, you would have a sharpening medium somewhat similar to the triangle stones in a Spyderco sharpmaker. You can also use the edge of the side window in your car.

DMT Dia sharp cards

Yup. I have a set, took them out of the carrying cases and just slid them in the card pockets for my wallet. I can't get quite as fine an edge with them as I can with my system at home, but I can certainly maintain an edge or restore a good working edge in a minute or two.

Take a look at the post linked below, from an older thread; a couple videos demonstrating sharpening on commonly-available items, including the coffee mug:

A coffee mug is made of ceramic. It can be used like a stone. I like a diamond impregenated rod that is threaded comes apart rod goes into a threaded brass tube and has a leather belt sheath. It doesn't have a name on it but I think it is a dmt.You should be able to find one any knife site.

EZE-Lap has one of those; it's the 'Model M'. I have an older one, going back to the early '90s or earlier. Vendor pic below; mine has a tan leather sheath, instead of the black one shown below. Works pretty well with a feather-light touch, putting some quick bite back into an edge.

Which one do you typically use to maintain a nice edge; red or green?

Bring 2 knives haha.

I've never used my knife to he point where the sharpness dulls too quick but I'll usually have a spare blade in the car. Sometimes a 8000 grit stone...
