Emerson 7A Finish Progression???

The Emerson coatings are Black T which is the black blades. I have a 7A spearpoint in this coating. It shows wear and has scratches from use but never saw a spec of rust anywhere on the blade, the coating is really good, no flake, and it does wear very well, just shows marks.
Next I have a CQC7B WAVE Tanto tip with the Silver coating. This knife also is very rust resistant but I do see specs from time to time especially around salt water but not as bad as other knives I have used in this manner. The silver coating also shows very little wear much less than the black T coating.

I also like the Silver coated Emersons for defense the knife just looks bigger and is more visiable to a Bad Guy. In my eyes that is a plus. Thats why I carry a Silver Commander

These are the two factory coatings that EKI offers and IMO they are REALLY great.

the "satin" finish is a hard chrome coat. it is very rust resistant and does not scratch as easily as the black teflon.

the vast majority of normal eki productions, including the 7a, have only been available in black-t or hard chrome.

none are beadblasted and i don't think any are TiN or CN.

there were a very few number of commanders and 7b's with the CN i believe.

a few kerambits and commanders have been released in hand-ground satin which is a real satin-style finish.

I have a CQC7A spear point, part serrated with a finish which
appears to be bead blasted. Serial # 800, made in 1999. It's the
only one I have ever seen.

I have three CQC7-A's and two 7-B's. The first 7-A is an older version with the older serration pattern listed as 1999 and has a dull gray blade finish. The second 7-A is also 1999 but has the Dragon's Teeth serration pattern and has Black-Ti coating. My third 7-A is marked 2000 and is plain-edged with silver satin finish.

My first 7-B is listed as 1999 and has a gray bead-blast, and my newest 7-B is 2002 with Black-Ti.

I much prefer the Black-Ti and the silver satin finishes over the bead-blast or the dull gray finishes.
