I would like to know if there is anything out there that is very similar to the A-100 or the A-100 mini. I really like them but cannot afford the price. Could you guys suggest an alternative. Thanks

Buy nice or buy twice. If you don't have it then save. Delayed gratification.

He's really right... if the A-100 is the one you really want, then you will not be satisfied with the substitute. I've been there, done that... buy what you really want when you can do so. Sorry that I don't have a worthy suggestion for a similar-type blade.

It's alright by me

Real deal is hard to beat...

... you may be best to hold off and put the $s aside for a little longer and get the A100, I always find myself regretting buying the "like" product and end up going after the real deal sooner rather than later.

The Cold Steel Holdout is a classic as a fixed blade. It was modelled after the Sgian Dhu.

After having both the Hold Out is a better knife, to me, in every regard. Especially with the XHP steel upgrade.

I wanted a Mini-A100 but couldn't find one anywhere and bought a Benchmade Valet 485 because it had a similar profile. I cost about the same and has a better steel and I still ended up buying a Mini-A100 when Emerson offered a few for sale. The moral of this story is that if you really want a knife just buy that knife because even if you buy a knife that's "better" you'll end up buying the one you originally wanted.

As I understand it from Mr. Emerson the A-100 started the tactical knife phenomenon. I absolutely love the simplicity, and functionality of than model. No high speed low drag, wave, thumb stud, flipper, hole, etc. stuff ; just straight forward fist full of knife. Hold out for the real deal because you will eventually end up with one.

This is true, save and get what makes you happy or what you want. "Better" is subjective and we all have our ideas of better. Try to find a shop that you can put hands on prior to purchasing if you can. Pawing for a few minutes can help solidify you decision.

Hold out for the real deal!! A substitution won't do. An Emerson A-100 or Mini A-100 is worth the wait!! I LOVE my Mini!!(Emerson isn't making any Mini's anymore.)
