Since the A-100 came out I've been intrigued by it to say the least. I'm now thinking of buying one. This will be my first Emerson, I mainly have Spydercos right now, so I'm a little concerned because it will be one of the most expensive knives I've bought, so I want to know how it is. If any of you guys own one of these and would care to share your thoughts on it, please do. I like the fact that it is a folding knife pared down to it's most basic shape, spearpoint blade in a square g-10 handle, looks very nice. It's also set up for tip up right hand carry which is perfect for what I want, and it looks like a nice small package when folded.

The Para and regular military just don't do it for me for some reason. Usually I love Spyderco designs, but they just come off looking very regular for some reason. I think design is one of the reasons I like the A-100, but I also want to know if it is well built and has a nice strong lock to it too. I will be using it as a general utility knife, likely for bike touring in the spring. I have a Spyderco for a work knife, so all the use for it will be strictly on my days off.

i dont have an A100 but have heard nothing but good about them, i do have an I&I tanto which has similar handles & i like it a lot FWIW.

i'm not nutz about the millie or para millie myself either, they are ok but far from my fav spydie, which is the ti ATR (as everyone knows by now lol).

I played with an A-100 today for a while and its actually a great knife.
Put simply, Its just a really nice minimalist design.
I also like it not having the wave, Id usually have the wave on a smaller knife but the A-100 does well with out it IMO

I also picked up my second D2 Para mili. today :p

Thanks for posting that link Morimotom. It escaped my searches it seems. I too have been warming up to EKI lately and the A100 is in the list. It seems like a few people have been getting onboard Emerson with the A100. There's a couple youtube videos, but they are in French. I still can't decide if I want the A100 or the CQC7 or PSark (da pointy one).

Do you guys think it will be better to get the black coating or just a plain satin finish blade? What does the black coating do for me?

The coatings are just that, coatings. The only real differnce is the colour.

I personaly prefer the satin coating but they both do the same job.

i go with the satin finish on all my knives, imho coatings suck plain and simple, i might would consider the coatings if i lived on the coast and the knife was gonna get a lot of exposure to salt but other than that give me the satin finish every time........

I have all three, I love the A-100. Quality is all Emerson, and it is so much fun to play with. I also have 18 spydies so is this is not a biased opinion. If you like the look just from photos, you'll not be sorry if you buy it.

I just got an A-100 satin PE and it's not that small. The blade is longer than my SOCKFA or 7A, but not quite as wide as my 10. The handle is minimalist but very comfortable. It opens smooth and locks tight. The clip is mounted too far into the handle; it sticks a good inch above my pocket. While touted as a gentleman's Emerson, there is no way it will supplant my Kopa around sheeple.

I think the operative part of that description will always be Emerson rather than gentleman's, so it was never going to stand in for one of Spyderco's little big knives, a Mnandi, or a William Henry.

I agree it's an Emerson first, and rethinking it's best role, I would place it as a general purpose knife. It wouldn't be my first choice for self defense since the handle lacks a hand retaining shape.

in comparing to other eki's, it is the most "gentlemanly".

compared to other gentleman's knives, it is all utility.

just depends on what you own and your point of reference.
