Ahhhhhhhh!!! Brends my other vice
Here are some of mine.
This one is a Model 2 8.5in ATS-34 blade.

This one is a Model 2 7.5in D2 blade.
Notice how it doesn't have the hollow pins in the handle like the other model 2s. I've never seen a model 2 without hollow pins.
The balance and the way this knife feels in my hand as if coming alive

It's an awesome peice.

This one is another Model 2 6.5in in D2 blade.

I like Brends and have been recently bit by the Brend bug if you couldn't tell
I'd like to trade the 8.5in ATS-34 for a 8.5in D2 blade but I still like it.
I recently went to a friends house and he's very much into Brends also. He has one model 4 Blade in 3V. He asked if I wanted to chop some aged seasoned oak with it. Before he could finish the sentence I screamed, "
YEAH!!!!!!!! "
So we took out a quartered log of this wood and before we started chopping I tried to put a fingernail mark into the wood to see how soft it was. It wouldn't take. So it was hard. I was getting there
Now I don't test knives and wouldn't even know where to begin, but I'm thinking cutting into this wood would be a decent start.
I took my first couple of strike on the outer core going with the grain. The penetration was awesome (no I'm not being preverted.....this time)

. After striking the log a buncha times I checked to see if there was any deformation or nicks or rolling on the blade by running my thumbnail down the cutting edge. To my surprise there was none. What surprised me more was that there were no marks on the side of the blade. The only marks I saw was the tuf-cloth film being worn off. I looked real close and there was no marks, none, nada, zip. The thing was as if I just took it out of the sheath. It was amazing.
My friend then said, "You know the inside core is the hardest part of the log. Why don't you chop that up and see how it stands up?"
So I chopped up the inside core and walla! Still no edge deformation or marks.
My friend then said, "Why don't you go against the grain on the inside core."
So I did. The thing was still razor sharp after I was done and still no edge deformation or marks on the side. The only thing I noticed was that it looked like little particles of wood seemed like it was fusing on the blade. They came off with our figernails. Did the thumbnail test again. No deformation and it shaved hair of our arms. Wiped it down and tuf-clothed it again and it looked as though it has never been used.
I gotta have me, at least, one Brend in 3V!!!
Enjoy
