So if I decide (have the money) for a Emerson auto should I go for a protech or gerber collaboration 1? Also what should I look for to spot a fake?

I do like the looks of the Gerber collab but no idea of the quality. Can't go wrong with a Protech.

I looked at both on bladehq and am gonna go protech but no time soon but that's always subject to change..ha

Auto are neat but in a dusty environment are prone to not working. Log ago a guy told me the best thing you could do with an auto was not Lubricate it, and blow out the dust, and dirt to keep it working.

Emerson say their Wave feature is faster, and more reliable than an auto. I can not argue with that logic.

Protech make some awesome autos, and even a few south paw model, that is a good thing.

.

The wave feature is WAY faster than pulling and deploying any auto knife.

I have owned auto knives in the past although I sold them as it is a felony to be caught with one where I live but pulling one & then opening it is nowhere near as fast as waving a knife open.

If you are going to buy an auto get the protech 7. Quality stuff. Or if you can track down a Kershaw Commander auto that'll also do. I wouldn't give Gerber my money but that is me

I've had quite a few autos and got rid of all of them. I'm now getting back into them just to collect a few and to say I have 1. I agree with everything posted. Thanks guys. I'll be holding off for awhile anyhow so I could change my mine too...lol

I own the Gerber, a few Kershaw auto commanders and several protechs.
IMO the Protechs are the best

The Gerber is one of the weakest firing autos I have ever felt. It's on my to do list to try to replace the spring

Love both. Protech quality is awesome. Another option is the auto commander (collab with Kershaw). Mine is well done. S30V, locking mechanism which is bank vault strong.

David- Is the Gerber spring weak on purpose?
I learned that some companies, Benchmade, use softer firing spring.
