Howdy folks, I was made an offer for a "Rare and vintage" Emerson CQC7 manufactured by Benchmade. The pics the fella sent me were of a knife with Benchmade logo on the left side if blade is facing downwards, Emerson logo on right side. It's an auto knife, which is neat as I don't have one in my collection. I'm a little lost as I don't know much about Emerson knives. I'm much more of a CRKT, Kershaw, and RAT 1 kinda guy (I know I know boo hiss)

Everything I've been finding says it's a Model BM970, I think. Can any of you fine folks help me out with some info on this knife? This is the link I was sent in regards to the posting I had up.

There's also this one, which looks like it says Emerson A-ST5 on the box to me, but I can't find anything about it either. I'm sorry to be bothing you folks with what I'm sure is a trivial matter, but it's a fairly healthy chunk of money in trade he's asking for, and I don't feel like coming up on the Very Very short end of a deal.

Thank you to anyone that can help me with this, I appreciate your knowledge and assistance.

*EDIT- This is not a request for value or anything beyond a link or two to a history lesson, or maybe a recap in your own words. Not trying to cross the mods or the forum*

The first one is a Benchmade 9700S, the auto version of the BM/Emerson collab. It's a BM knife designed by Emerson. You can get more info by Googling BM 9700. There's some info on BM's factory forum on the knife.

Or you can email Benchmade directly and ask them, no better answer than straight from the company that made them. The same goes for the Emerson, that is a SPECWAR model. The "A" refers to the balde shape, being a drop point, when you see a "B" that means it's a tanto. The BT means it's a black blade, and the S means serrated. That does not say ST5. That knife is still available in various color G10 handles, with a satin finish as well as plain edge. It takes some looking but they are out there.

Thank you folks for all the assistance. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. Guns and Guitars, I know. Knives, I'm getting into and trying not to slip into any pricey(rookie) mistakes.

Be careful when people throw out the "rare" or "vintage" or other terms to tell you how unique and one-of-a-kind a knife, or anything, is. True, these 9700s' are becoming harder to find. Do some research here on BF and the internet. This isn't the last one ever. It'd be even better if you can see it in person before you buy. Read up on them, there is a lot of info out there.

I'm used to folks using that word to jack up the prices on older firearms, I got a deal on a Colt from a guy who claimed it was "vintage" and "rare" and was insistant on this until I sent him a link with the seriel number list, pointing out that the gun was only from 97-98 era, and that while it was old, it certainly wasn't a Singer 1911 vintage 1940's. His price became much more reasonable lol.

But everything I'm seeing is showing the 9700 a little high on the normal price spectrum, and the specwar a little low on the normal price spectrum. So I think it evens out ok. He's doing those two knives and a MagPul PRS AR buttstock for a Sig P250 1st gen, which I hate and only bought to practice off duty with our service weapon. BTW, any gun fans on here, skip that piece of junk. 10 pound trigger pull, cheap internals, horrible reset. We broke 6 of these guns between 80 people when we were qualifying, and it wasn't through abuse, just standared use doing essentially bullseye shooting at an LE controlled range.

I do appreciate all the help you fine folks have been offering, even though I'm sure it's frustrating for you since you know what to google directly to skip this portion of research. Thank you all again!
