i found a benchmade with emerson marked on the blade. this is a older tanto style similar to the CQC-7B, infact its so close it might be an early modle. my question is would this knife have the wave deployment system like some of the new emersons? http://www.emersonknives.com/videos/CQC-7.MPG

im asking this because i dont know what the wave actually looks like. could somebody post some closeup pictures of what a wave knife looks like? i would go to the store and try it out to see if it would deploy but that looks alittle odd.

No the Benchmade version does not have the wave feature. The model you're referring to is the Benchmade 970 which was Ernest Emerson's collaboration with Benchmade. These were available with a bead blast or Black-T finish. Benchmade no longer makes them, but you can get current CQC-7s straight from the original designer's company. Check Emerson's site and you'll see pics of the CQC-7B with and without the "wave" feature.

The Benchmade/Emerson was discontinued quite a few years ago. Ernie subsequently started his own production knife company.
It does not have a Wave (some Emerson CQCs don't sport that feature either). From what I've heard, the BM/Emerson is a nice knife. I really like my Emerson Mini-CQC-7 tanto and the Wave on my Mini-Commander works fine.

This is what a waved CQC-7 looks like.

Cross-posted with Superchunk.

I had the 975 which was the larger model. The 970 was the 3 1/2 inch and the 975 was te 4 inch model. The bead blasted ATS-34 blade was a beast. They were good knives. If you can find one it would be a good score.

im just wondering what eactly engauges the blade. my 806d2 is ziptied and i understand how that works but i dont see any thing special about the emersons that would engauge the blade like that.

Here's a pic of the standard Emerson CQC-7B (without the wave feature):

Take a look at the thumb rest on top of the blade. The "waved" CQC-7B has a distinctive curve that catches on the seam of your pocket as you draw it which opens the knife as it is pulled from the pocket.

hmm, interesting.

i might buy a new 806 to wave it, i bet with alittle time with a dremal i could remove the thumb hole and make a wave.

i saw a pic once of a 806 cut like ya describe, it may have worked fine but looked funky as could be to me.

i would sell it and get an EKI if i wanted the wave, myself.

I have the 975 also and it is a great knife. I have either carried it on me or in my car since 1999 and it had never let me down. Only reason I don't keep it on me now is because I have to wear a suit. Great knife.
