What is the technique to get the blades on Emerson folders to center? Ive screwed around with the pivot screw a bit, but it seems to get the blade to center, it has to be too tight.. Also, is anyone Locktiting the pivot screw?

The action smoothe out after a bit of wear in time, dont worry about that.

You can lock-T the pivot or teflon tape it, or just keep it as is. I dont use any thing on the pivot and I have had no problems.

You will need to get the blade centered then it will "wear in" meaning the washers and the liners will basically polish up, then the action will feel less stiff but the blade will still be centered.

Cool.. So there is no other trick to centering the blade other than tightening the pivot?? I read on a blog somewhere about adjusting the ball detent. .It even referenced an article on this board about how to do it, but I couldn't find it.. Thanks, btw..

Give this approach a try, I got some good results using it on an older Benchmade liner lock.

With the knife closed, loosen the pivot to the point where you can push the blade fairly easily from one side of the handle to the other. Now move the blade so that it's centered and hold it there with your thumb or fingers. Now tighten the pivot gradually until it's at the point where the action is to your liking. You may get a blade that's more centered when closed.

If this doesn't yield anything I would give the knife some more wear-in time, assuming it's new at this time.

depends, it is possible there is a problem that requires a trip to the shop.

if what haze recommends does not work, you may need to send it in.

however, in my experience, it will wear in after not too long. and i use loctite on all my emersons. i find the sweet spot with the pivot, then loctite it in.

Yup its a brand new knife.. I initially tried to adjsut it when closed as that made the most sense to me.. I can get the pivot tightened to what feels good to me, but the blade is just barely off the liners at that point.. Ill carry it for a couple of months and see what happens..

shouldn't take that long.

you might consider lubricating the bushings between the blade and scales.

ya dont want it too loose or too tight. too loose, and it opens nice and quick, but you risk lock failure and the blade hitting the liners.

too tight, and well, that should be obvious.
