emerson commander differences?

What are the differences of the commander since the origianal design and the evolution of this knife compared to todays model? Is one more desirable or more valuable?

The early 99's had the thicker liners too. The really elusive ones have a true satin finished blade, not the chromium coated silver. There are also a few Mil-Spec's floating around out there, made in 98 and early 99. These have green-T coated blades and the thicker liners.
I'm guessing that the rarest ones are the 98's with the satin blades, then the Mil-Spec's, but I could be wrong.
Do a search for the title word "Commander" over in the Emerson forum. Open a Harp, light a cigar, kick back and read for a few days.

Paul, thanks for your help on this one. Realy liked the part about the harp & cigar how about a hemingway clasic.:D

BC - welcome to the forums! Paul is correct, the most valuable Commanders are the '98 satin finished ones. It's a true satin finish, not the hard chrome coating which Emerson Knives calls a satin finish now. In general, I heard that EKI sold more black bladed Commanders so they discontinued the satin ones. Though across the board, the '98 Commanders - regardless of blade finish - are in high demand due to the thicker scales and liners.

Also worthy to note is the traction notches. the '98 Commanders only had the thumb rest of the blade spine notched. For the '99 models, they added laser cut notches on the liners near the blade spine thumb rest. Also for the '99 models, the blade spine traction notches were squared off.

Thanks Dexter.., I actually didn't know all those differences.., appreciated!
