I especially like the wave feature on top of my Commander's blade as it allows me to present the knife faster than any other folder I know of.

I have two complaints so far after evaluating two different commanders (one plainedge and one comboedge).

The first is that after using both of the knives for less than 3 days the blade bolt (which is adjustable) loosened to the point where the blade was extremely wobbly and felt like it was ready to fly off. I corrected this problem by re-tightening the bolt. I have to re-tighten the blade bolt often to keep it from becoming to loose.

Second, this is a result of the first problem, the left side of the blade rubs
against the liner lock when opening because of the sloppiness caused by the loose blade bolt. Even when the blade bolt is tight the blade sometimes rubs against the liner lock when opening with the thumb disk method due to the fact that there is a great amount of flex/play, probably from the spacers/bushings
on either side of the blade at the blade bolt juncture.

Other than that, it is a great knife and these irritating problems can probably be fixed with a little Lock-Tite.

Have any other Commander owners experienced these problems?

The loose pivot is something that, it seems, all Emerson folders suffer from. My Commander does it and so does my CQC-7, other BF members have commented on the loose pivot pin issue as well. Loc-Tite will work, so will some teflon tape.

Hi all!

Just wanted to share my "experience" concerning "liner rub".
I've carried various liner locking knives with ti liners since 94/95 and i've had problems with liner rub on all of them.

A few weeks ago i was weight training and carried my CQC-7(BM large version)and i checked it just before going away and there was no liner rub, the blade was nicely centered in between the liners, i trained for an hour and when i returned back home i flicked open the and realized that i had severe liner rub ??? as i hadn't used the knife i was VERY surprised, i checked the knife and realized that the knife was bent, maybe i had bumped the knife somewhere during training or whatever, i grabbed the knife and bent it in the other direction and liner rub was no more.
I'm not aying that you should bend your knife so it looks like a banana but check if your knife is bent the way it rubs the liner, i noticed that when i get linerrub on my commander it always on the same side, as i carry it 95% in front right pocket it bends gradually when i sit down and after a few days it's slightly bent, i checked with a ruler and it's hardly noticeble but enough to make the liner rub, knives with ti liners and g-10 aren't "stiff" enough not to bend from being carried in front pocket.

Just my experience, others might have other, please let me know what they are!

Take care and be well!/2Sharp aka Jonas

I just wanted to say that I've read a lot of posts where some people have had problems with their Commanders and where some people like me who have a perfect Commander. Quality control definitely does not seem to be consistent. By all means if there's a problem, send it back to Emerson and I'm sure it will be resolved. My Commander is definitely one of my favorite knives out of my collection. And I'm going to get the chromium nitrate Commander/CQC7 set to complement it. Hopefully this Commander won't have any problems as well. Just my 2 cents.

I had the exact same liner rub problem on my Commander, when I opened it I kept thinking, "what is that sound?" Turns out it was the blade rubbing against the liner, so now I just tighten it every little while and it's still one of my favorites.
