I have owned an Emerson Commander for a while now, but I recently bought a SOG Vulcan. The only problem I am having is choosing which one to carry around. I'm sure some of you have seen my other threads just called "SOG Vulcan" well that's just me trying to get some info on the vulcan. Here are the stats as I remember:

Emerson Commander:

Handles: Black or Green G-10 epoxy / glass laminate
Liners: Aerospace grade Titanium
Blade: 154 CM
Finish: Black or Satin Finish
Grind: Conventional V Grind
Overall Length: 8.75 in.
Blade Length: 3.75 in.
Handle Length: 5.0 in.
Blade Thickness: .125 in.
Hardness: 57-59 RC (more like in the 59 to 61 range)
Weight: 4.9 oz.

SOG Vulcan:

Blade: 3.5" x .16"
Overall Length: 8.375"
Weight: 5.0 oz.
Edge: Straight
Steel: VG-10
Handle: Zytel
Finish: Satin
Includes Reversible Pocket clip

This knife is completely ambidextrous and has the arc-lock which is tested over a 1000 lbs. Now I know the lock is nice and the vulcan looks really fancy, but I'm not too sure which will actually hold it's own if I were to take it camping or just using it on a daily basis. Feel free to send in your input and let me know what you think of the two knives. Thanks ahead of time, J.
ps. If anyone knows how to put pictures on here please let me know and I'll put up pics on the commander and the vulcan.

Of the two the commander would get my vote for a number of reasons.
first if you are taking it camping the commander is very simple to pull apart and clean. Second the liners are titanium. Much stronger than the steel on the vulcan. The flipper on the vulcan certainly does have its appeal. But the commander has the wave feature that will open it every time you pull it out of your pocket. and personally i think that metal tail thing with the sog logo is kinda tacky. Emerson is just all business.
This is all my opinion. dont let my view sway your decion. Go to a store and handle both.

I fully agree with you about the ease of cleaning with the commander and the strength of it, that's why I can't seem to pick between them at this moment. I have carried the commander for a long time now, and of course I bought a new toy (the vulcan) and now I would like to carry my new toy around. The only problem is that I would like to have the knife on me that is best for the job, and I guess as long as I'm not stabbing a rock or tree the emerson should do just fine. But keep rolling in the replies, thanks again, J.

I also think the commander is better then the sog.I own 4 emersons right now and more on the way, they are addicting.I love the disigns and hand feel they are one of the best production knives on the market.Pictures don't do justice at all you have to pick one up in your hand to understand.
