Hi STR,

Just wondering if you could customize handle slabs on my mini Commander and reprofile the edge geometry to make it more of a slicer. Polish the blade and pocket clip.

For the handle slabs I was thinking desert iron wood.

If so, could you give me an estimate on cost and time frame.

Thanks,

Jason

Jason I've done it using Ivory Micarta and other materials. I'd have to find the wood or get you to provide it. I don't stock much but Lignum these days and currently I'd be into next year before I could get to it I think. I am getting new stuff in the mail daily so its already Christmas now and moving out every day.

Last one I did similar was $120 shipped for the scales. Blade changes?? Not sure that I am the one you want. I've seen some of Tom Krein's work there and must say he does a better job than I can. He did my Jess Horn right by me also. I should also say, it may or may not be even close to that cost with the wood you want depending on the grade and whether I have to buy it or cut it myself to the thickness I need. Don't just pick some up but lets talk about it. I'd prefer to go with something from a good source, in a thinner stock verses a big block so I can reduce sanding, cutting and all that which helps me control my asthma.

Hope you understand.

I'm sure it would be a real good looker. That or snakewood would be stunning I think.

Let me see what I can find for wood stock...... snake wood? I'm listening..... don't think I've seen that before.

I have asthma as well so if we can figure something out to keep you from wheezing, I'm game.

In the mean time, I'm gonna research snake wood and check for wood stock that's @ 1/8" thick.

Thanks for your time,

Jason

Actually I have never worked with this wood. I've just seen it. Jantz supply has it in a 3/16" thickness which is fine, and its 1.25" wide though which you will need to check to see if that is wide enough to cover the scale up there at its widest point on your handle. The problem I see here is that the scale they sell is just 3 and 3/4" long or 4" long but thats it. The 4" long piece is 1/4" thickness. Of course this is two pieces 1/4" thick by those measurements.

Something tells me thats not long enough for your folder. Its $30 plus shipping for enough wood to do the job if that fits the need though.
