I recently bought an Emerson Commander and absolutely love it. It is extremely sturdy and holds an edge extremely well, the g10 is superb and the only company I have ever seen bake a better g10 is Spyderco. I have two issue though I have a great deal of trouble trying to sharpen the inward curved blade and if anyone has any recommendations of what I should use to sharpen it that would help a ton. Also I don't know if I should train using the wave automatic deployment feature or if I should just train with it like it is a traditional unassisted folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated and also if anyone owns the knife your opinion would be great for deciding if this should be my new edc or if I should stick with my benchmade 710.

As far as the sharpening goes, you could use half inch stones, belts, rods. You can also use a 1/2" wooden dowel wrapped in sandpaper to get inside the recurve edge of the blade. I would practice using the wave feature and also using the thumb disc. The waved part can be tough on your pockets.

I can sharpen my brother's Mini Commander pretty easily with a Sharpmaker.

Practice opening it every way possible so you're familiar with it.

EDC it for a few weeks then go back to the BM for a few weeks. Which ever you like better is the one you should carry.

If is not very dull you can use a not so wide strop (2-3cm) with some metal polish.

Is it ok if I ask a question on this thread so I don't have to open another?

I own a Mini-Commander and I've got a Spyderco sharpmaker and a Lansky standard set (on loan from a friend). I've sharpened the Emerson on the sharpmaker and it cuts cardboard really well only thing is I can't cut paper properly. Is the knife right or left hand specific? Or am I not doing it properly?

Thanks! :D

Are you using the flat sides of the sharpmaker rods or the corners? I find the recurve on the Mini-Commander to be to steep to use the flats. The corners however work perfectly.

Not the same thing but I've had no problems sharpening my zt 0350(another re curved blade) using the sharp maker.
