I will be buying a Commander in the near future and wanted to know how well the chisel primary grind worked. Also is it easy to sharpen on the Sharpmaker, I am guessing it would be without the base? Also how hard would it be to use the Sharpmaker to give it a V grind at 40 degrees overall? Thanks in advance.

The chisel grind works really well for most tasks. Don't bother with a sharpmaker; just sharpen freehand using the flats of the sharpmaker stones. This also works with Lansky stones. Follow the directions on the Emerson web site and you'll be in good shape.

Also, a E-Z Lap pocket diamond rod works great for getting a good "working edge" on chisel grinds.
